Product Description

Beconase is a medicine that comes in the form of a spray. It is used in the treatment of allergies started from the nose. It can also be used to avoid the regrowth of nasal polyps after surgery.

The spray is a corticosteroid, which functions by reducing swelling and inflammation in tissue in the nose. It also prevents the effects of chemicals and cells of the human immune system.

Important data

When making the transition to an inhaled medication from one taken orally, monitor yourself carefully. If you notice yourself going through withdrawal, contact a doctor.

Symptoms of withdrawal include muscle pain, joint pain and depression. If you were on an orally taken steroid drug, you have to be very careful when making the switch.

Your body will take a while to generate enough naturally produced steroids to make up for the gap that the lack of medicine has left in it. This could be a few months.

Without these steroids your body is unable to handle injury, surgery and even infection properly. Without steroids to deal with these, the conditions could be fatal.

If something should happen along these lines, talk to a doctor immediately. You may need to begin the course of oral steroids again.

When using Beconase AQ, make sure you don’t let it anywhere near your eyes. If this should happen, rinse at once with cold water.

For emergency situations always make sure that you have an extra inhaler device on standby. This will come in handy if your primary device should malfunction.

When on this medication, steer clear of people affected by chickenpox or measles. You are more likely to be affected by these diseases, and there is a higher chance of them being severe.

This drug has the capability to impair growth in teens and children. You will have to monitor your child regularly to make sure they are growing normally.

Beconase is not recommended for use by children under the age of 6 because of safety issues. There isn’t enough data to support the safe use of this medicine in young children.

The risk factor of Beconase when used by a pregnant woman is currently unknown. Tell a doctor immediately if you get pregnant or plan on it while on Beconase.

Whether the medication passes into the milk of mothers is currently unknown. Talk to a doctor before breastfeeding a newborn while you are on Beconase.

Do not use this medication if you have allergies to any of its ingredients. Tell a doctor about your allergies to other environmental and chemical factors.

If you have been vaccinated recently or if you have an infection, chickenpox, TB, measles or recent surgery, tell your doctor before taking Beconase.

Dosage

Use Beconase AQ exactly as your doctor has told you to. Do not deviate from the instructions on the prescription label in any way.

If you want a precise dosing guide, check the label on the bottle or in the box. This is a patient leaflet with all pertinent risks, doses and other useful information.

Do not use it orally. It is only meant for use as a nasal spray. Shake the bottle well before each spray. For first time users, prime the spray nozzle and pump by spray outwards a few times.

Make sure your sinuses are clear before using the spray. You can do this by gently blowing your nose. For actually spraying, follow these steps:

1. Tilt your head forward.
2. Insert the nozzle into your nostril.
3. Keep the bottle upright.
4. Spray and breathe in at the same time.
5. Breathe out through your mouth.

Use the spray regularly for the best results.

Missed doses and overdose

If you miss a dose of Beconase, take it as soon as you know. If you are about to spray the next dose, ignore the one you just missed. Do not spray twice to make up for it.

If you happen to overdose on the Beconase AQ spray, contact your local poison hotline immediately and seek emergency medical assistance.
