Dilantin is a drug that treats seizures. Its main component is phenytoin sodium. It belongs to a family of drugs that are called anticonvulsants.

Dosage

For children with seizures, the total recommended dosage for this medication is 5 mg per kg of body weight. This total dose should be divided between two to three doses during the day.

 

In certain instances, children over the age of six and teenagers may be prescribed the total dose of 300 mg. This can be taken three times a day.

 

The total recommended dosage for adults is 300 mg. This should be taken in 100 mg doses three times a day.

 

If you forgot to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If your next scheduled dose is due soon, skip the dose that you missed. Do not take two doses together.

 

In the event of an overdose, call the nearest emergency medical services immediately.
