Do not drive or operate machinery while on Effexor. It has the capacity to impair your cognition and make you feel dizzy or drowsy.

It is more likely for older adults to contract the side effects. It is possible for older people to have hyponatremia if they are on any diuretics.
Prior to surgery, be sure to keep your doctor informed of any drugs you are on including natural/herbal products.
Children may experience a loss of appetite when on Effexor. Make sure you record the weight of a child if they are on the medication.
Use Effexor only if necessary if you are a pregnant woman as it may harm unborn children. Never use it in the last trimester, as it can lead to withdrawal symptoms in newborns.
Do not stop taking Effexor unless your doctor tells you to. Skipping treatment for mental issues can be a very serious thing indeed.
Do not nurse a newborn while taking Effexor. It is possible for the drug to enter the breast milk of a mother and harm the child.
Follow the instructions in the leaflet given with the medicine or by your pharmacist. If you have a prescription, follow the instructions the doctor has provided.
The usual dosage for this medicine is once a day with a meal. This is usually in the morning or evening. Do not crush the tablet. Swallow it whole.
Do not break the Effexor tablet unless it has a line at which the split can be made. Do not chew the pill before swallowing it.
Drink a full glass of water with each dose of Effexor. If you can’t swallow the capsule form whole, open the capsule up and sprinkle the powder onto something soft and neutral.
Missed doses and overdose
If you miss a dose of Effexor, take it when you remember. If you are about to take the next dose, skip the one you missed. Do not take extra to make up for it.

NOTE: Effexor has been shown to rarely cause a disease known as serotonin toxicity. This can be fatal if not treated.
Stop using Effexor immediately if you have an allergic reaction.
Do not take ibuprofen, warfarin and blood thinners with this drug.
MAO inhibitors can cause a fatal reaction on rare occasion.
