Product Description

Micronase lowers the blood sugar level in the body. Its main component is glyburide. It belongs to the sulfonylurea class of drugs.

Uses

Micronase is used to control elevated blood sugar levels in individuals with type-2 diabetes. This medication works by causing the body to release its insulin to counteract the effects of a high blood sugar level.

Maintaining a stable blood sugar level prevents a lot of dangerous ailments. These include loss of vision, sexual dysfunction, kidney problems, damage to nerves, and even the loss of limbs. Having a balanced blood sugar level also lowers the prevalence of strokes and heart attacks.

The effects of Micronase are augmented with a healthy diet and proper exercise.

Dosage

Always follow the prescription that your doctor has provided you with. Do not take Micronase in higher or lower dosages than you have been instructed.

This medication should be taken orally.

The recommended dose for this medication is between 2.5 mg to 5 mg a day. This dosage should be taken with the first meal of the day.

For individuals who are sensitive to hypoglycemic drugs, the recommended dosage is 1.25 mg daily. This should also be taken with a meal.

If you have been prescribed the medication colesevelam, take Micronase at least four hours before the other drug.

If you miss a dose of Micronase, take it as soon as you remember. If your next scheduled dose is due soon, however, skip the missed dose. Do not take two doses together.

An overdose of Micronase may cause severe hypoglycemia. In the case of an overdose contact your medical emergency services.

These drugs include ACE inhibitors, blood thinners, certain antifungals, MAO inhibitors, NSAIDs, and Aspirin. This is not an exhaustive list of medications. Contact your physician to see what medications you should not take with Micronase.

Do not take this medication with Gemfibrozil as it may affect the level of blood sugar in the bloodstream.

Do not take Micronase with cyclosporine as it may increase the presence of side effects.
