Product Description

Vasodilan is a trade name for Isoxsuprine, a vasodilator that helps blood flow smoothly through blood vessels. Isoxsuprine is used to treat medical conditions affected by poor blood flow through arteries and veins. Vasodilan is available by physician prescription.

Drug Information

The main active ingredient in Vasodilan, Isoxsuprine, is a beta-adrenergic agonist. The drug belongs to a group of medications called 2 amino 1 phenylethanol derivatives. Isoxsuprine can emulate the actions of the neurotransmitters epinephrine and norepinephrine and signal smooth muscles in blood vessels to relax. Once the arteries and veins are dilated, vascular resistance decreases, and the blood flow increases. Improving blood flow in the body is called vasodilation, and drugs that help vasodilation like Isoxsuprine are called vasodilators.

Vasodilation affects mean arterial pressure (average blood pressure), cardiac output (volume of blood being pumped by the heart) and total peripheral resistance (resistance in blood vessels against blood flow). Therefore, drugs like Vasodilan are used to treat certain diseases of the blood vessels that prevent normal flow, like Raynaud’s disease, arteriosclerosis obliterans, Buerger’s disease and cerebrovascular insufficiency. Hindered blood flow can cause numbness, tingling, cold hands or feet and impaired memory or judgment. Vasodilan helps relieve such symptoms.

Vasodilan is available as small, round white tablets.

Dosage

Vasodilan dosage will vary as per physician recommendation, age, severity of the condition and response to the treatment. The dosage prescribed by a physician should be followed exactly.

Vasodilan tablets must be swallowed by mouth 3 to 4 times per day or as prescribed by a doctor.

Vasodilan can be taken with or without food. It’s highly recommended to take Vasodilan during the same time each day.

Missed doses should be taken immediately, but not too close to the next dose. Do not take two doses of Vasodilan at once.

Vasodilan must be taken regularly for the drug to be fully effective against the disease being treated.
